June Scalia
Graduate Student, PhD
I am a PhD student specializing in Trans-Atlantic Modernism, with a focus on sculpture. My research interests include the outdoor display of modern sculpture in ancient, medieval, and early modern cityscapes; distinctions between art and craft; and figurative evocations in otherwise nonrepresentational art.
In 2021, I completed my MA in Art History at CUNY Hunter, where I was the recipient of the department’s Communication Studio Fellowship. My MA thesis focused on Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida and the significance of his work within the cultural context of Francoist Spain.
