Professor Elizabeth Childs Co-Organizes International Symposium

In June 2021,  Professor Liz Childs co-organized a virtual international symposium for the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, along with Professor Anna Gruetzner Robins of University of Reading and Professor David Peters Corbett of the Courtauld. The topic was “Crossing Borders, Constructing Canons: ‘Post-Impressionism’ in Britain, America and Beyond.” Twenty-three speakers and discussants from seven countries participated, with a recording of the two-day conference now available online. Professor Childs's paper was on the popular and critical reception of Gauguin’s art--including its harsh censorship--at the Chicago venue of the Armory Show in 1913. A publication of the conference proceedings is planned
